At The Gates is a band that needs no introduction. At the forefront of the new wave of Swedish Death Metal, 1992’s ‘Red in the Sky Is Ours’ set the band down a path that would culminate with At The Gates becoming one of the most influential and captivating bands in the community. And in support of their highly acclaimed album ‘To Drink From The Night Itself’, the band have today kicked off the start of their massive European tour with a multitude of offerings for their fans.
Released in a strictly limited seven-inch format, the first offering comes in the form of a new EP that takes ‘The Black Mirror’ and ‘Daggers Of Black Haze’ from Drink’ and adds the unique vocal stylings of Rob Miller from Amebix and Tau Cross.
Additionally, in celebration of the new EP the band have also unveiled a music video for the new Rob Miller version of ‘The Black Mirror’. Created and directed by Twilight13Media’s Costin Chioreanu, the vision behind ‘To Drink From The Night Itself’s’ album art, Chioreanu’s unique interpretation provides the perfect backdrop to the haunting melodies of the track.
In speaking of the release, Vocalist Tomas Lindberg commented that,
‘When we decided that we wanted to release the two Rob Miller tracks on a separate 7″, we felt that ‘The Mirror Black‘ was worthy of its own video. Costin was already excited about the idea, and I explained the basic outlines of the idea of the song. Working with Costin always brings in another dimension to our music and my lyrics; so he did his own interpretation of the main theme of the song. I am super happy with the result, I really think that this is one of the best videos AT THE GATES have ever done. There are a lot of hidden meanings and other symbolism in this clip, so you can watch it many times and still find new stuff. We as a band are super excited about this release!’
A second EP is also being released today in a digital format under the title ‘With the Pantheons Blind’. Containing all six bonus tracks from the recording of ‘To Drink From The Night Itself’, namely ‘Daggers Of Black Haze’ and ‘The Mirrow Black’ featuring Rob Miller, ‘The Chasm’ featuring Per Boder, ‘A Labyrinth Of Tombs’ featuring Mikael Nox Pettersson, the demo version of ‘The Chasm’ and a re-record of ‘Raped By The Light Of Christ’ from their 1993 release of ’With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness’.
