Making the announcement via a humorous short inspired by the prison footfall film ‘The Longest Yard’ Foo Fighters let the fans know that they are playing the pre-Super Bowl concert. Scheduled for the Friday before Super Saturday Night, the concert will take place live in Atlanta with plans to stream the show via Twitter straight to their DirecTV Audience.
With an undeniable nod to the 1974 ‘The Longest Yard’ and its 2005 remake, the band are introduced as a bunch of gridiron pariahs known as the San Fernando Jackalopes. Also featured are Fox NFL Sunday’s Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw and Michael Strahan who are used to introduce the band as the league’s most ‘unlikely team of misfits’ as well as narrate the sketch to the audience.
Made up of Larry Butz (Dave Grohl), Helmuut Pyle (Pat Smear), Jake Schenker (Chris Shiflett), Bertrand Hitchens (Nate Mendel) and Bret Rogers (Taylor Hawkins) as the team take to the field for practise it becomes abundantly clear, if that wasn’t already obvious, that the team are definitely not cut out for life in the National Football League. As things go predictably pear-shaped for the San Fernando Jackalopes, the team are left to rely on the support of the cheerleaders, who bear a striking resemblance to the members of the Foo Fighters.
As we mentioned above, fans looking to watch the pre-Super Bowl concert can do so on DirecTV’s Audience Network. And if you are not a subscriber then the show will also be stream live via DirecTV’s Twitter Account. For Fans in the UK that means an early start with the stream commencing at 3.30 Saturday morning.
