Back in February of this year an article that appeared in LiveWire that made every mouth in the metal community salivate with excitement with the news that Corey Taylor had been working on lyrics to fresh Slipknot music. Like the distant signs of a coming storm, Corey’s confirmation of Clown’s statement from back in November meant that the Nine were finally descending upon the studio.

Marking the sixth studio album and second without bassist Paul Gray, Corey recently sat down with Kerrang! Magazine ahead of the Kerrang! Awards 2018 as part of their In Conversation With series to provide an update on the highly-anticipated follow up to .5: The Gray Chapter and to let the fans know that they should be expecting something “fucking dangerous” to land at some point in 2019.

He continued, “we have 16 songs written right now and … I loved .5, but this album, to me, makes .5 looks like nobody’s business. This is Iowa levels of heavy. And I have to go out and tour this shit at my age – I can feel those songs in my back!”. And whilst we don’t have many details yet about the new release, Corey added that he was “really, really exited”. “It’s been a heavy couple of years for me personally,” he said. “So I’m working out some things, personally for myself, which has been great. I’ve been able to grab ahold of some of the depression that I’ve been fighting and formulate the way that I want to describe it. It’s probably the most I’ve shared in years.”

Whilst we are yet to receive any concrete release date, Corey did leave us with this. “be prepared for 2019 – which, weirdly, is the 20th anniversary of our first album. Shit’s about to get fucking real again! So take that as you will.
