With less than two weeks to go before the release of the bands forth full length studio album ‘So What?’, Sheffield metalcore quintet While She Sleeps unveil a brand new forty-minute documentary of the same name that details the creation of the new album.
Directed by Roscoe Neil and Jess James, the ‘So What?’ documentary captures everything from the writing of the album through to the release of the first single ‘Anti-Social’, with plenty of captivating content in-between. Sure to capture the hardships as well as the things that seem to come easier to the band, the ‘So What?’ documentary is an authentic insight destined to resonate with Sleeps fans the world over.
Letting their hair down and their ‘bollocks out’, with ‘So What?’ While She Sleeps is not ‘fucking around’, not cutting corners, they are writing this album as though it will be their last. In speaking about their new record, Mat Welsh explained that “You Are We’ got us to this special position, and it’s given us a platform. For us, it’s like, ‘What can we do to really stick this in people’s faces? What can we put out there that we’re buzzing off?’ I don’t want to be following everyone else; I want people to follow us’.
‘We are confident that we don't have to write inside a little box to please the metal world … It's always about finding something that makes you feel cool at the time, whether it's a riff or a vocal, if we all feel it then that's the seal of approval. It's about how you want people to feel on their first listen’.
Regarding the albums conceptual approach, ‘So What?’ is about how easily we all judge everything before we actually know anything about it’. Mat continues, ‘If we put a really elaborate title on a record with a really elaborate cover, that could give you the option of deciding what you think of it before you’ve listened to anything on it. The one thing we’re putting every bit of our creative juice into is the music’.
Be sure to catch the documentary below and check out the album on the 1st of March.
