Earlier this year Slipknot made us a promise ahead of the Kerrang Awards that their new material would be ‘Iowa levels of heavy’. The question is, does the release of ‘All Out Life’ hint towards a fulfilment of that promise or does it point towards a let-down. If like us you had some reservations, then only a few second of ‘All Out Life’ should be enough to burn those fears away. If the throaty vocals and drum patterns reminiscent of their 2001 LP are anything to go by, then we have one hell of an album to look forward to.
By way of an album update, Corey, in speaking to Zane Loweon Apple Music’s Beats 1 said that the album that is underway is ‘going to be one of the darkest chapters in Slipknot’s history; it’s that good’. Continuing, ‘it’s dark; it’s heavy; it’s melodic, it’s fierce; it’s angry and it’s real; it’s raw as hell and it’s going to be talking about a lot of things that people are going to need in their life right now’. Clown added, ‘Right now is a very exciting time for Slipknot. We’ve been working on new music for the last two years, and “All Out Life,” the song and the video, is just one of many concepts in the works’.
As for the track itself, Corey had this to say, “All Out Life” is a song that is trying to do 2 things: bring everyone together, but also remind everyone that the past is not something to be discarded with disdain. People are so eager to find the Next Big Thing sometimes that they shit all over the bands and artists that have come before, thus making the past feel disposable, like a dirty thing. Fuck that: Why should we pay attention to your mediocre future when you can’t be bothered to celebrate an amazing past? I’d rather listen to a guaranteed hit than a forced miss. “All Out Life” is the anthem that reminds people that it’s not the date on the music—it’s the staying power.
For more Slipknot, stay tuned.
